Stephen Vasciannie, Jamaican Ambassador to the United States
The David Hunt Committee Members in DC, under the Distinguished Patronage of the Jamaican Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency, Stephen C. Vasciannie will host a Jamaican Inaugural Ball.
This formal event will take place on Saturday, January 19, 2013, in the Elegant Atrium of the National Education Association (NEA) building, located at 1201 16th Street NW, Washington, DC 20036, from 8:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.
In addition to partying Jamaican style we will be honoring and celebrating President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden on their second inauguration and the continuing warm relationship of the USA/Jamaican governments.
All proceeds will go to the David Hunt Scholarship Fund which provides scholarships to deserving students at Calabar High School and Kingston College, in Jamaica.
Guests will enjoy a sumptuous selection of heavy hors d’oeuvres, including seafood and vegetarian selections. We will have a number of hosted bars serving selections of imported and domestic beer (including Jamaica’s Red Stripe beer), wine, and a varied selection of non-alcoholic beverages (including Ting and Kola Champagne).

This inaugural ball will be rocking with Jamaican music featuring multiple areas of live entertainment including Donovan Marks and the Rainforest Band, DJ Wilton “Prentice” Williams, and special guest singer Michael “Silky” Schloss.
As an added attraction, we will also have an “Olympic Village” to recapture some of the highlights of the London 2012 Olympics. We will have giveaways throughout the night – including a flat-screen TV.
NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD AT THE DOOR.
Very fitting that we will be hosting the event at the National Education Association (NEA) Headquarters at 1201 16th Street NW, Washington DC 20036. The NEA commitment to public education is reflective of the numerous education opportunities afforded Jamaicans in the USA. The NEA Atrium, with granite floors, soaring ceiling and beautifully-lit trees, serves as the building’s focal point and is the perfect place for this event.
Limited, complimentary garage parking in the building at 1525 M Street NW is included in the ticket price.
David, a distinguished past student of Kingston College (KC) – High School in Jamaica, was co-founder of Meadhaven United Football Club, former General Secretary of the Kingston & St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA), former General Secretary of the Minor League Football Association, one of Jamaica’s most notable Track and Field Analysts, former Jamaica National Under-17 Football coach, and KC, Calabar High School (Calabar), and Meadowbrook High School Manning Cup coach. He led Calabar to both the Manning Cup and Oliver Shield titles in 2005 before his untimely passing in October 2007 from a heart attack. His passion for youth and sports were unequaled.
The goal of the Scholarship Initiative is to offer two (2) scholarships (J$100,000/US$1,200 per student) each year, to a 2nd year KC and Calabar student selected from nominated Grade Seven students who displays commendable academic performance and attitude, is involved in sports or other co-curricular activities, and is in need of financial assistance. The scholarship period for each recipient covers Grade Eight to Grade Thirteen at a budgeted cost of J$600,000/US $7,200 per student, and covers tuition, books, lunch, and other related expenses. To date, (8) scholarships have been awarded.
